On National Environment Day 2026, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed the United Arab Emirates’ strong commitment to environmental protection, sustainable development and long term climate action. He emphasised that safeguarding natural resources is a shared responsibility and requires active participation from individuals, communities and institutions across the country. The President highlighted that sustainability remains a central pillar of the UAE’s national vision, reflecting a long standing approach to balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship. He noted that progress in clean energy, biodiversity protection and resource efficient infrastructure has been driven by forward looking policies, innovation and broad societal engagement. He also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the Net Zero 2050 strategy, which aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by mid century. This strategy supports the transition to a low carbon economy while strengthening resilience across key sectors such as energy, transport, industry and urban development. National Environment Day was also positioned as a moment to recognise ongoing initiatives including habitat conservation, mangrove expansion, renewable energy deployment and public awareness programmes. The President’s message served as a call for continued collective action to ensure a sustainable, prosperous and environmentally resilient future for the UAE.
