The UAE has launched the first phase of a national energy and water reduction initiative, targeting 60 federal government buildings as part of its broader sustainability and resource efficiency strategy. Led by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the programme aims to optimise energy consumption, reduce water usage and lower emissions across public infrastructure. The initiative focuses on deploying advanced technologies and engineering solutions, including high-efficiency cooling systems, upgraded lighting, smart energy management systems and improved water conservation mechanisms. These upgrades are designed to enhance operational performance while delivering measurable reductions in resource consumption across participating facilities. Authorities expect the programme to generate significant efficiency gains, with projected reductions in both energy and water use contributing directly to national climate targets. The phased rollout approach allows for performance monitoring and scalability, enabling the government to expand the initiative to additional buildings in future stages. Aligned with the UAE’s National Energy and Water Demand Management Programme and its net-zero by 2050 ambitions, the initiative reflects a growing emphasis on transforming public sector infrastructure into more sustainable and resilient systems.
