The UAE has launched a $32.6 million (AED 120 million) nationwide initiative to improve energy and water efficiency across federal government buildings. Led by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the programme marks a significant step in advancing sustainable infrastructure and reducing resource consumption. The first phase of the initiative will target 60 government facilities, with projected savings of up to 27% in overall energy and water use. The rollout has already begun at a hospital in Ras Al Khaimah and will expand across multiple federal assets as part of a broader national efficiency strategy. The programme includes a range of upgrades such as high-efficiency cooling systems, improved lighting, energy-efficient pumps and advanced engineering solutions to optimise building performance. These measures are expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions while enhancing operational efficiency. Aligned with the UAE’s National Energy and Water Demand Management Programme, the initiative reflects a growing focus on sustainable infrastructure and resource optimisation. A second phase is already planned, potentially expanding the programme to hundreds of additional buildings, reinforcing the country’s long-term sustainability and climate goals.
