A high-level UAE delegation, led by Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, recently visited Belgium to enhance bilateral cooperation in energy, water, and sustainability. The delegation held meetings with Belgian ministers and envoys on energy and climate, underscoring shared priorities such as energy security, renewable energy, water resource resilience, and alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the visit, institutional and academic collaboration took center stage. An MoU was signed between a UAE university and a Belgian sustainability research institute to push forward joint research and innovation initiatives relevant to the energy transition. The delegation also toured key infrastructure including the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, illustrating the role of logistics and infrastructure in enabling sustainable trade and energy partnerships. The trip reflects both countries’ commitments to translating dialogue into actionable projects. It establishes foundations for long-term scientific, technical, and policy cooperation in nuclear and renewable energy, water innovation, and institutional partnerships. Observers view this as part of broader global efforts to accelerate clean energy transition and climate action.
