Saudi Arabia's National Centre for Waste Management (MWAN) has announced that 123 local and international companies have submitted expressions of interest for the development and operation of the Kingdom's National Digital Platform for Waste Management. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Environment Fund and the National Centre for Privatisation and PPP. The project will be delivered under an 11-year Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (DBFOMT) model. According to MWAN, the platform is intended to serve as a nationwide digital system supporting waste management activities across the Kingdom through integrated data collection, monitoring and regulatory functions. The expressions of interest were received from companies operating across multiple sectors, including information technology, digital transformation, waste management, environmental services, telecommunications, consulting, investment and industrial manufacturing. The EOI phase for the project was launched in April 2026 as part of the procurement process. According to project documents, the platform will include seven core business applications and 27 functional modules covering areas such as licensing systems, electronic waste tracking, regulatory reporting, stakeholder management and data analytics. The system is expected to provide a centralised platform for compliance monitoring and coordination across the waste management value chain. MWAN has stated that the initiative is intended to expand digital coverage of waste management activities, improve operational efficiency and strengthen regulatory oversight. The project forms part of Saudi Arabia's broader efforts to modernise waste management systems and support the objectives of Vision 2030.
