Saudi Arabia has strengthened its efforts to protect biodiversity by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support the conservation and reintroduction of the endangered houbara bustard into its natural habitats. The agreement was signed between the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority and the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Foundation for Houbara Conservation as part of the Kingdom's wider environmental conservation initiatives. The MoU focuses on developing specialised programmes for breeding, releasing, monitoring and tracking houbara bustards while applying scientific expertise to improve the species' long-term survival. The partnership also aims to establish safe movement corridors and reduce threats to the bird, including risks associated with power lines and habitat degradation. In addition to species conservation, the agreement includes measures to raise public awareness about wildlife protection and combat illegal hunting. The initiative supports Saudi Arabia's broader biodiversity goals by restoring native species and strengthening the resilience of desert ecosystems through science-based conservation practices. The collaboration forms part of Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and ecosystem restoration. By expanding efforts to protect the houbara bustard and its habitat, the Kingdom aims to enhance biodiversity, preserve its natural heritage and contribute to long-term ecological resilience.
