Muscat Municipal Council has reviewed progress on Oman’s transition to net-zero emissions and discussed a range of urban development initiatives aimed at supporting environmental sustainability and long-term economic growth. The discussions took place during a council meeting chaired by Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat. During the session, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals presented updates on the work of the Oman Net Zero Centre, including developments in the national roadmap for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The presentation outlined sector-specific emissions reduction pathways, implementation plans and measures designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions across the economy. Officials also highlighted efforts to develop carbon market regulations and the Meezan national platform for emissions inventory and management. The initiatives are intended to strengthen climate-related decision-making, support emissions tracking and enhance Oman’s ability to meet its environmental commitments. The council additionally reviewed urban development matters, including land-use planning and environmental management issues within Muscat Governorate. Discussions focused on improving resource efficiency, supporting sustainable development objectives and enhancing quality of life through coordinated planning and regulatory measures.
