Malaysia has approved RM9.46 million to implement 52 immediate flood mitigation projects across Sarawak, reinforcing the government's commitment to strengthening climate resilience and reducing flood risks in vulnerable communities. The funding will support the implementation of Cakna MADANI projects aimed at improving local flood management infrastructure and enhancing public safety. The projects will focus on addressing urgent flood-related challenges through improvements to drainage systems, river infrastructure and other protective measures designed to minimise the impact of heavy rainfall and extreme weather events. The initiative forms part of the government's broader efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and strengthen resilience against the increasing risks associated with climate change. The allocation complements Malaysia's ongoing investments in flood mitigation infrastructure, with federal and state authorities continuing to prioritise projects that safeguard communities, protect critical assets and improve water management. Immediate intervention projects are intended to provide timely solutions in flood-prone areas while supporting longer-term resilience planning. The latest funding reflects Malaysia's continued commitment to climate adaptation and sustainable infrastructure development. By investing in flood mitigation measures, the government aims to reduce disaster risks, strengthen community resilience and improve the long-term sustainability of water and environmental management across Sarawak.
