Kuwait’s Central Agency for Public Tenders has approved two major infrastructure contracts aimed at strengthening renewable energy integration and improving national water security. The projects include a 35.9 million dinar contract for a 400 kV overhead transmission line to connect the Shagaya renewable energy complex to the national grid, along with a 42.2 million dinar contract to upgrade the country’s water distribution system. The solar transmission project is critical for supporting Kuwait’s renewable energy targets, as it will enable power generated from the Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex to be efficiently transmitted across the country. Shagaya is one of Kuwait’s flagship clean energy projects and plays an important role in the national goal of generating 30% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The second project focuses on upgrading water infrastructure to improve supply efficiency, reduce system losses, and ensure long-term resilience in water services. Strengthening water systems is especially important in Kuwait due to high demand, climate pressures, and the country’s dependence on sustainable resource management for future growth. Together, these investments reflect Kuwait’s broader strategy to modernise critical infrastructure while advancing sustainability goals across energy and utilities. By combining renewable power expansion with water security improvements, the government aims to build a more resilient and future-ready national infrastructure framework.
