Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MHUA), K Srinivas, visited Jaipur’s Langdiyawas-based waste-to-energy (WTE) plant on Friday, highlighting the central government’s focus on innovative urban sustainability initiatives. The plant, developed under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), represents a key collaboration between the Rajasthan government and private partner Jindal Urban Waste Management (Jaipur) Ltd under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. During the visit, Srinivas was welcomed by JMC-Heritage commissioner Nidhi Patel and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) director Juikar Pratik Chandra Shekhar. Officials provided an overview of Rajasthan’s solid waste management efforts and shared insights into how the WTE plant is advancing the state’s sustainability and clean energy goals. Plant representatives offered a comprehensive presentation on the facility’s operations, emphasizing the use of modern waste-processing technologies and the plant’s ability to convert municipal solid waste into electricity. Secretary Srinivas also toured the site to observe the operational processes and energy conversion methods firsthand. Commissioning in February 2025, the facility currently processes up to 1,000 metric tonnes of waste daily and generates around 12 megawatt-hours of electricity. With a daily contribution of approximately Rs 2.5 crore in revenue to the municipal body, the project plays a crucial role in reducing landfill reliance, advancing renewable energy use, and reinforcing the principles of circular economy in urban India.
