Gujarat has emerged as India’s leading state in renewable energy capacity, overtaking Rajasthan to secure the top position in installed clean energy capacity. According to recent official data, the state now has a total renewable energy capacity of approximately 47,178 MW, reflecting its strong push toward clean energy development. The growth has been driven primarily by large-scale solar and wind energy projects, supported by favorable state policies, infrastructure development, and continuous investment in the renewable sector. Gujarat’s strategic focus on expanding solar parks and strengthening grid connectivity has played a key role in achieving this milestone. Rajasthan, which previously held the top position, remains a major renewable energy contributor, particularly in solar power. However, Gujarat’s rapid expansion across multiple renewable segments has helped it move ahead in overall capacity. This development highlights the increasing competition among Indian states to lead in clean energy deployment, aligning with the country’s broader sustainability goals. India aims to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, and contributions from states like Gujarat are critical to meeting this target. The milestone reflects positive momentum in India’s energy transition, showcasing how state-level initiatives and investments are accelerating the shift toward sustainable and low-carbon energy systems.
