India has set an ambitious goal of capturing around 10% of the projected global green hydrogen demand, which is expected to exceed 100 million metric tonnes by 2030. Speaking at the FICCI Green Hydrogen Summit 2025, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Naik highlighted the country’s progress under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. So far, 19 firms have been allocated a combined 862,000 tonnes of annual production capacity, along with 3,000 MW of electrolyser manufacturing capacity distributed among 15 companies. The government’s strategy aims to position India not just as a large-scale producer but also as a reliable exporter of green hydrogen, creating a global hub for trade in clean fuels. Industry leaders underscored that the falling cost of green hydrogen is already making it more competitive than blue hydrogen in certain international tenders—a major milestone for accelerating the clean energy transition. International partners are also showing strong support for India’s ambitions. The European Union, through its delegation to India, reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation in the sector. Plans for closer collaboration were reinforced at the second India-EU Green Hydrogen Forum held in Rotterdam in May 2025, reflecting growing alignment between India and global markets on advancing the green hydrogen economy.
