India Sets Record with 6.05 GW Wind Energy Capacity Addition in FY 2025‑26

India achieved a historic milestone in the renewable energy sector by adding 6.05 GW of wind energy capacity in the fiscal year 2025–26, marking the highest annual addition ever recorded in the country.

This represents a remarkable 46% increase compared to the previous year, highlighting the rapid pace at which India is expanding its clean energy infrastructure. The record addition not only strengthens India’s energy security but also demonstrates the country’s commitment to a sustainable and low-carbon energy future.

The government, through the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), played a key role in enabling this achievement. Supportive policies such as fiscal incentives for developers, accelerated project approvals, and strengthened transmission infrastructure have created a conducive environment for investment in wind energy.

These measures have ensured that large-scale wind projects could be commissioned efficiently, reflecting the government’s proactive approach in driving the country toward its ambitious renewable energy targets.

The growth in wind energy capacity was the result of combined efforts from both public and private sector stakeholders. Several Indian states contributed significantly, with large wind farms being operationalized across regions.
