India-Led Solar Alliance to Continue Climate Push After US Exit

The India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA) — a global coalition of countries committed to promoting solar energy and advancing climate action — plans to continue its work with its 125 member and signatory nations even after the United States withdrew from the organisation as part of a broader pullback from multiple international bodies. Originally launched by India and France during the 2015 Paris climate summit, the ISA is headquartered in Gurugram and focuses on facilitating the adoption of solar energy technologies worldwide, particularly to help developing countries scale up clean energy deployment. According to Indian government sources, the alliance will remain committed to its core objectives — such as mobilising finance, building capacity, supporting solar deployment, and helping countries overcome challenges in expanding renewable energy access, especially in least developed countries and small island developing states. India currently holds the presidency of the ISA, underscoring New Delhi’s leadership role in driving the organisation’s mission. Government officials highlighted that the alliance’s focus on achieving universal energy access and climate goals remains unchanged despite the US decision to exit, which was framed by Washington as part of an effort to withdraw from organisations it deems not aligned with its interests.
