India Advances Power Grid Infrastructure for Sustainable Energy Transition

18 May 2026 at 05:25 pm IST

India is focusing on improving grid readiness and transmission infrastructure to support the rapid expansion of renewable energy across the country. Speaking on the importance of modern power systems, Rajesh Kulhari from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy highlighted that strengthening the electricity grid has become essential as India moves toward higher renewable energy capacity. India has already crossed major non-fossil fuel energy milestones and is progressing rapidly toward its 2030 clean energy goals. However, with solar and wind installations increasing across renewable-energy-rich states, the country now requires stronger transmission networks and storage systems to efficiently transport and manage clean electricity. The discussion emphasizes that renewable energy integration cannot succeed without parallel investments in grid modernization, interstate transmission corridors, battery energy storage, and smart grid technologies. These upgrades are expected to improve power reliability, manage fluctuations from renewable sources, and ensure stable electricity supply nationwide. The growing importance of green hydrogen, energy storage solutions, and digital grid management systems is also supporting India’s long-term energy security and sustainability objectives. Policymakers believe that improved grid preparedness will help reduce transmission bottlenecks while enabling faster clean energy deployment. India’s clean energy transition is being positioned as a strategic national effort aimed at building a resilient, low-carbon, and future-ready energy ecosystem that supports both economic growth and climate goals.
