Environmentally sustainable mobility is becoming a tangible reality in India, driven by a growing alignment among equipment manufacturers, governments, and consumers. According to the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) in its Automotive Electrification in India Market Report, the country's automotive industry is at a pivotal stage, with electrification reshaping not just vehicle powertrains but the entire ecosystem. States are actively promoting the transition from conventional fuels to alternatives by supporting local EV manufacturing, expanding charging infrastructure, and developing dedicated mobility clusters. This coordinated policy approach at both central and state levels is helping drive the adoption of electric vehicles across the country. India’s transition to sustainable mobility is unique due to its multi-fuel and multi-path strategy. While e-mobility is a major focus, significant progress is also being made in CNG, hybrid, flex-fuel, and hydrogen-powered vehicles, with adoption patterns varying regionally based on local policies, infrastructure, and market readiness. IESA emphasizes that balanced demand- and supply-side interventions, technology neutrality, and support for all environmentally friendly solutions are crucial as India moves toward its Net Zero goals. The organization works with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and research institutions to accelerate adoption of energy storage, e-mobility, and green hydrogen technologies nationwide.
