Dubai has launched a large-scale initiative to plant 20,000 trees across the city, marking the 20th anniversary of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s leadership. The programme, led by Dubai Municipality and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), aims to expand green spaces and strengthen environmental sustainability across urban areas. The tree-planting drive will be implemented across parks, residential neighbourhoods, and educational institutions, with participation from government entities, schools, universities, and local communities. Authorities have positioned the initiative as both an environmental and social effort, encouraging public engagement in sustainability practices. The initiative aligns with broader government strategies such as the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040. These frameworks prioritise increasing green cover, improving air quality, and enhancing access to nature within urban settings as part of long-term sustainable development planning. Officials emphasised that the project is designed to create a lasting environmental impact while promoting a culture of sustainability among residents. By combining urban greening with community participation, Dubai aims to reinforce its commitment to building a more resilient, livable, and environmentally conscious city.
