Dubai has inaugurated Al Shera’a, the new headquarters of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), which has been described as the world’s tallest, smartest and largest net-positive government building. The project was officially opened by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on May 16, 2026, as part of Dubai’s broader sustainability and clean energy ambitions. Located in Al Jaddaf, the building is designed to generate more energy annually than it consumes through integrated renewable energy systems and advanced efficiency technologies. The project aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to accelerate the emirate’s transition toward sustainable urban development. According to DEWA, Al Shera’a incorporates artificial intelligence, smart energy management systems, rooftop solar infrastructure and high-efficiency water and cooling technologies. The building also includes green mobility features, intelligent workspace systems and environmentally conscious construction materials aimed at reducing operational emissions and resource consumption. Sheikh Mohammed said the project reflects Dubai’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and future-ready infrastructure. DEWA Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer stated that Al Shera’a represents a new global benchmark for sustainable government buildings and supports the UAE’s long-term climate and energy transition objectives.
