On 25 February 2026, Dubai Health announced a major partnership with renewable energy provider Positive Zero to fast-track its shift to clean energy across 26 healthcare facilities in Dubai, marking a significant step in greening the healthcare sector in line with national sustainability goals. The initiative will see the installation of on-site solar rooftop and carport systems with a combined capacity exceeding 14.1 megawatts, bolstering the organisation’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining high standards of patient care and operational excellence. Under the agreement, solar generation at the first 13 facilities is expected to produce nearly 10,700 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity in its first year of operation, contributing to a projected reduction of about 167,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the lifespan of the project — an environmental benefit equivalent to the impact of planting over 4 million trees. The installations will also include the UAE healthcare sector’s largest solar car park capacity, providing shaded parking for nearly 3,000 vehicles while generating clean energy for facilities. In addition to solar generation, the partnership includes the implementation of a Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) project at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, aligning with the UAE Demand Side Management Program and Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2030. This efficiency measure is expected to deliver up to 15 percent energy savings and prevent more than 9,500 tons of carbon emissions over its operational lifecycle, showing how energy optimisation can complement renewable generation in reducing the sector’s overall environmental impact. Executives from Dubai Health and Positive Zero highlighted that the initiative exemplifies how essential services can adopt sustainable practices that support broader national strategies, including the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050, while also improving the built environment for patients, visitors and staff. By embedding renewable energy deployment into critical infrastructure, Dubai Health is helping set a benchmark for cleaner healthcare operations in the region and contributing to the UAE’s wider aim of doubling energy efficiency and tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030.
