Bahrain’s Minister of Oil and Environment, who also serves as the Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, met with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates at the Mohammed bin Zayed Nature Reserve to reaffirm and strengthen bilateral cooperation on environmental protection and sustainability initiatives. The visit underscores a shared commitment by both nations to safeguard natural heritage, conserve biodiversity, and expand joint efforts in ecological stewardship. The meeting included a tour of the nature reserve’s facilities and conservation programmes, giving both officials the opportunity to review ongoing wildlife protection measures and strategies for habitat restoration. As one of Bahrain’s most important ecological sites, the reserve provides sanctuary for native and regional species and serves as a hub for educational and research activities aimed at preserving biodiversity. In his opening remarks, the minister highlighted the historical depth of the relationship between Bahrain and the UAE, noting that recent initiatives — such as renaming the Al Areen Wildlife Park in honour of the UAE’s President — reflect a broader spirit of environmental cooperation and mutual respect. The UAE Ambassador echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of cross‑border collaboration in addressing shared environmental challenges. Both sides agreed to explore additional avenues for joint sustainability projects, including community education on wildlife conservation and expanded research partnerships in ecosystem management. By reinforcing their environmental ties, Bahrain and the UAE are advancing a regional model of cooperation that integrates biodiversity protection with long‑term climate and sustainability goals.
