The UAE Food Bank has launched the “Sustainable Goodness” initiative in collaboration with Dubai Municipality, Dubai Customs and other partners to reduce food waste by recovering abandoned food shipments at Jebel Ali Port and redistributing them to beneficiaries across the country. Under the initiative, participating entities will identify food shipments whose owners choose not to complete customs clearance procedures. The shipments will be assessed to ensure they meet approved health and food safety standards before being transferred to the UAE Food Bank for distribution through its humanitarian network. The initiative establishes a coordinated framework for managing surplus food that might otherwise be discarded. Authorities said the programme will help reduce food waste, improve surplus food management and support food security objectives through the recovery and redistribution of suitable food products. The partners will also work on awareness initiatives promoting responsible consumption and the importance of reducing food waste. The programme is expected to strengthen cooperation among organisations involved in food supply chains while supporting the UAE’s broader sustainability and resource management goals.
