UAE Launches Green Innovation District at Expo City Dubai

29 October 2025 at 10:03 pm IST

The governments of the Expo City Dubai and the Ministry of Economy and Tourism (UAE) have launched the country’s first dedicated “Green Innovation District” — a landmark initiative designed to integrate economic growth with environmental sustainability. The district will offer incentives including a new “Green Licence” for eco-conscious businesses, and an on-site Green Intellectual Property office to accelerate technology localisation and innovation. Located at Expo City Dubai, the district will host light-industrial units, green manufacturing, urban farming plots and clean energy ventures, all aligned with the nation’s net-zero target for 2050. It is designed to operate as a circular-economy ecosystem, where waste from one facility becomes input for another, and to boost local R&D, job creation and the transition to sustainable mobility and production. This project builds on Expo City’s pre-existing sustainability credentials (LEED-Platinum and WELL-Community certifications) and positions the location as a testbed for nature-first innovation and green industry. It also underscores the UAE’s ambition to become a global hub for circular-economy solutions, showing how climate action and economic competitiveness can reinforce each other.
