Singapore Installs Solar Panels at Marina South Pier to Support Clean Maritime Operations

Singapore Installs Solar Panels at Marina South Pier to Support Clean Maritime Operations

05 August 2026

Singapore has strengthened its clean energy transition with the completion of a solar power generation system at Marina South Pier, reinforcing the country's commitment to sustainable maritime operations. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has installed 1,092 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels across the terminal to reduce emissions from shore-based facilities and advance national renewable energy targets.

The solar installation spans approximately 3,200 square metres of rooftop and canopy space and is capable of generating up to 780,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This is equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of around 180 four-room HDB flats and will supply a significant share of Marina South Pier's electricity demand. MPA also plans to progressively upgrade the terminal's electrical systems to maximise the use of renewable energy.

Beyond powering the terminal, the renewable energy system will support the current and future charging requirements of electric harbour craft operating from Marina South Pier, contributing to Singapore's broader efforts to decarbonise its maritime sector. The project forms part of the public sector's GreenGov.SG sustainability movement, which promotes greater adoption of clean energy across government facilities.

The Marina South Pier project is one of several renewable energy initiatives being implemented by MPA. The authority is also replacing diesel generators with renewable electricity systems on Pulau Satumu and aims for the island to operate entirely on renewable power before the end of 2027. Together, these initiatives demonstrate Singapore's continued investment in clean energy infrastructure to build a more sustainable and climate-resilient maritime sector.

Pier-level solar for maritime operations is exactly the kind of distributed decarbonisation play that reshapes port emission profiles, and it complements broader green-shipping-corridor commitments. Our energy-transition and impact-assessment teams help maritime and port clients evaluate distributed clean-energy investments and Scope 2 disclosure alignment.
