Qatar Ministry Reports 100% Surge in Organic Farming

19 November 2025 at 11:07 pm IST

Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality has published its first fully comprehensive Sustainability Report for 2025, covering a broad spectrum of initiatives—from environmental management and urban development to agricultural innovation and public well-being. A standout achievement in the report is a 100% increase in organic farming production by the end of 2024, driven by growing demand for healthy, chemical-free produce. To support this surge, the ministry provided farmers with modern technologies, quality control frameworks, and technical training. By 2024, about 950 active farms were engaged in organic production, and the dedicated land for organic farming doubled. Meanwhile, the national livestock population reached 1.4 million animals, and the ministry supplied machinery to over 1,200 farms, helping increase efficiency. To build capacity in organic practices, the ministry also organized a training programme for 35 agricultural engineers and farm managers. They learned everything from soil preparation to certification processes. The report itself was prepared according to Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, showcasing Qatar’s commitment to transparency and long-term, sustainable development.
