Oman Unveils US$97 Million Plan to Strengthen National Food Security

31 October 2025 at 10:07 pm IST

The government of Sultanate of Oman has approved approximately US$97 million to bolster national food security, signalling an intensified push to reduce import reliance and increase domestic production. While specific project details were not fully disclosed, the allocation aligns with the country’s broader economic diversification strategy. Under this funding initiative, investments will flow across multiple food-systems segments including agriculture, livestock, fisheries and food-processing capacity. The plan emphasises import substitution — ensuring more food is grown or processed domestically — to strengthen resilience in the face of global supply-chain disruptions. This move complements the national Vision 2040 agenda, which focuses on long-term sustainability, economic diversification and resource efficiency. By allocating significant capital toward food-security infrastructure and production, Oman is setting a clearer path toward self-sufficiency and a more sustainable food-system.
