MRB Charts 2026-2030 Plan, Prioritizes Sustainable Rubber and EUDR Compliance

The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) is developing its Strategic Plan 2026 - 2030 to ensure a more sustainable future for the country's rubber industry.

Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani stated that the plan, structured around four pillars, aims to boost productivity, promote innovation through R&D, empower support services, and strengthen MRB's operational efficiency and governance.

Crucially, the ministry and MRB are committed to complying with international sustainability standards, including the upcoming European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The Malaysian Sustainable Natural Rubber (MSNR) agenda is being advanced to strengthen the sector's sustainability framework.

The MSNR initiative, which provides recognition to license holders, has now been extended from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak. This commitment was highlighted by Malaysia's first MSNR-compliant rubber export to the EU in December 2024.

Natural rubber is one of the seven commodities in scope for the EU Deforestation Regulation, and the sector's supply-chain structure - dominated globally by smallholder producers - makes traceability and due-diligence compliance particularly complex. Malaysia's move to embed EUDR readiness and MSNR certification into the national strategic plan through 2030 represents one of the more coordinated producer-country responses to date.

The extension of MSNR from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak, combined with Malaysia's first MSNR-compliant export to the EU, indicates real progress rather than aspirational planning. For downstream buyers - tyre manufacturers, industrial rubber processors, automotive OEMs - supplier-country programmes of this kind reduce the individual due-diligence burden and provide a credible pathway to compliant sourcing at scale.
