Mexico Strengthens Green Mobility Ambitions Through China Rail Partnership

Mexico is advancing its sustainable transportation agenda through deeper collaboration with China on green railway infrastructure, as government officials, industry leaders, and international organizations gathered in Mexico City to explore the future of low-emission urban mobility.

The China-Mexico Dialogue on the Green Future of Railway Transportation, held under the theme Sustainable Mobility and Cultural Exchange, focused on how modern rail systems can help Mexico address rising transportation demand while reducing emissions, improving urban connectivity, and supporting more sustainable city development. The discussions come as Mexico City continues investing in the electrification and modernization of its public transportation network.

A key contributor to the forum was Chinese railway manufacturer CRRC Corporation Limited, which showcased rail solutions designed for Mexican operating conditions and highlighted its ESG-driven approach to infrastructure development.

During the event, the company also presented its 2025 Sustainability Development Report for Mexico, outlining initiatives aligned with both Mexico’s regulatory priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The report highlights low-carbon outcomes from metro and light rail projects in Mexico City, alongside ongoing work in Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Campeche.

Mexican officials emphasized the strategic role of sustainable mobility in shaping the country's urban future. Mexico City Minister of Mobility Héctor Ulises García noted that sustainable transportation is not only about moving people efficiently but also about improving quality of life, reducing inequalities, and lowering polluting emissions.

The forum also explored broader themes such as smart mobility, urban resilience, and digital innovation in city planning. Industry representatives highlighted rail transport as a critical enabler of Mexico’s sustainability and logistics ambitions, while international experts underscored the growing importance of intelligent infrastructure in future-ready cities.
