Mexico has launched a Sustainable Tourism Investment Framework to mobilise responsible investment into tourism projects that support environmental sustainability, climate resilience and inclusive economic growth. Developed by the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) in collaboration with UN Tourism, the framework aims to strengthen Mexico's position as a leading destination for sustainable tourism while improving long-term investment planning.
The framework provides strategic guidance for identifying, evaluating and promoting tourism projects that generate positive environmental and social outcomes alongside economic benefits. It encourages investments in sustainable infrastructure, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy, resource efficiency and community-based tourism initiatives that contribute to resilient local economies.
The initiative aligns with Mexico's broader tourism policies, which prioritise climate resilience, destination management and sustainable development. It also supports efforts to integrate environmental and social considerations into tourism planning while attracting both domestic and international investors seeking projects with measurable sustainability impacts.
By establishing a dedicated investment framework, Mexico aims to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable tourism sector that protects natural and cultural assets while creating employment and supporting local communities. The initiative reinforces the country's commitment to balancing tourism growth with environmental stewardship and long-term economic resilience.
