Malaysia is set to strengthen its role in advancing sustainable urban development at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from May 17 to 22, 2026. The country will be represented by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, who also serves as President of the United Nations Habitat Assembly (UNHA). According to Malaysia’s Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), Nga Kor Ming will participate in the Ministerial Meeting on the New Urban Agenda, where Malaysia will present its national statement and chair the National Statement Roundtable under its UN-Habitat leadership role. The minister is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with UN-Habitat officials and international stakeholders to strengthen cooperation on sustainable housing and resilient urban development. Malaysia will also launch its national pavilion during the WUF13 Urban Expo to showcase the country’s urban transformation projects, affordable housing initiatives and sustainable city development plans. The event will coincide with the introduction of the Asia Pacific Urban Agenda Platform (AP-UAP), aimed at promoting stronger regional collaboration on sustainable urbanisation. Nga Kor Ming said Malaysia believes inclusive national growth depends on building future-ready and resilient cities. He added that the country looks forward to working with global partners to develop sustainable urban solutions that improve quality of life while addressing growing environmental and infrastructure challenges.
