Malaysia and the United Kingdom have strengthened their bilateral cooperation on climate action by launching the second phase of the Malaysia‑UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) Fund. The initiative is now the UK’s largest climate partnership programme in Malaysia and aims to support key areas of the country’s climate transition. The UK PACT 2.0 programme builds on work begun in 2020 and seeks to expand Malaysia’s capacity to implement a domestic emissions trading scheme, improve green finance strategies, and prepare for a national forest carbon offset mechanism. By supporting these priorities, the programme aims to enhance the integration of renewable energy and climate‑smart investments into Malaysia’s economic framework. Officials described the collaboration as a platform for shared learning, technical exchange and mutual progress toward sustainability objectives. They highlighted that combining Malaysia’s policy leadership with UK expertise and networks can accelerate climate solutions and support low‑carbon development. With funding committed over two financial years, UK PACT 2.0 also seeks to guide both private and public sector actors through a strategic roadmap that drives investment into energy storage, grid infrastructure and strengthened carbon market mechanisms. The programme reflects a broader commitment to mobilise finance and capacity for effective climate action.
