Kuwait & Vietnam deepen ties in trade, tourism & sustainability

24 September 2025 at 04:21 pm IST

Kuwait and Vietnam recently concluded their 5th Political Consultation, marking an intensification of bilateral engagement across trade, investment, tourism, and cultural sectors with a strong emphasis on sustainability. The two countries agreed to cooperate more closely in renewable energy, digital economy, agriculture, fisheries, and food security, and discussed the possibility of establishing direct flights to strengthen people-to-people exchanges. Trade between the nations has diversified beyond oil and petroleum-based products. Kuwaiti imports from Vietnam now include seafood, fresh fruits, textiles, furniture, electronics, and machinery. Bilateral trade reached about US$7.3 billion in 2024 — making Kuwait Vietnam’s largest trade and investment partner among Gulf Cooperation Council states. Cultural and educational cooperation also featured prominently in the discussions. Kuwait and Vietnam will expand language scholarship programmes, explore cultural events for 2026 — as they prepare to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations — and collaborate in the Halal sector. Both sides also expressed support for a GCC-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement to further institutionalize their partnership.
