Kuwait Fund & UNDP Launch $4 M Projects for Sudan Relief & Recovery

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and UNDP have launched two new development projects worth USD 4 million to assist vulnerable communities across Sudan. The funding aims to improve access to clean energy, water, and food systems at a time when the country continues to face severe humanitarian and economic pressures. One of the projects will focus on restoring livelihoods in eastern Sudan by expanding climate-resilient agriculture, strengthening fisheries and livestock production, and deploying solar-powered water and energy solutions. It will also provide training for local committees to improve community-level governance and ensure inclusive participation. The second project will support smallholder farmers by improving irrigation infrastructure, distributing solar-powered irrigation systems, and providing training on water-efficient farming practices. Community water-user associations will also be established to manage resources sustainably and reduce pressure on already strained water systems. Together, these projects aim to deliver immediate assistance while laying the foundation for long-term recovery. By enhancing essential services and building resilience, the initiatives are designed to help displaced families and host communities withstand ongoing conflict and environmental stress.
