India is on track to surpass 300 GW of installed clean power capacity, marking a significant milestone in the country's transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy system. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi highlighted the achievement, noting that it reflects the steady expansion of renewable and other non-fossil fuel energy sources under the government's clean energy initiatives.
The milestone has been driven by continued additions in solar, wind, large hydro, nuclear, and other renewable energy technologies. According to the minister, India's clean energy capacity has grown consistently over the past decade, strengthening the country's energy security while supporting its long-term climate and decarbonization goals.
The government also highlighted the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to accelerate rooftop solar adoption across the country. The scheme is expected to enable millions of households to generate their own electricity, reduce power bills, and contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy in India's electricity mix.
Crossing the 300 GW mark represents another step toward India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel installed capacity by 2030. The continued expansion of clean energy infrastructure is expected to support economic growth, attract investments, create employment opportunities, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The announcement reinforces India's commitment to advancing its clean energy transition through sustained policy support, infrastructure development, and large-scale deployment of renewable energy technologies, positioning the country for continued progress toward its national and international climate objectives.
Crossing 300 GW clean-power capacity is a real inflection point, and the challenge shifts firmly to grid integration, storage and firm-power decisions. Our energy-transition and responsible-investment teams help clients evaluate what the next 200 GW pipeline looks like and how to sequence capital across generation, storage and transmission.
