India Highlights Renewable Energy and Battery Storage as Pillars of Green Transition

27 July 2026 at 04:59 pm IST

India is strengthening its clean energy transition by accelerating the expansion of renewable energy and advancing battery energy storage systems (BESS), according to Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi. Speaking on the country's evolving energy landscape, the minister highlighted that renewable energy generation, supported by efficient energy storage, will play a crucial role in meeting India's growing electricity demand while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Joshi noted that battery energy storage is becoming an essential component of India's power infrastructure, enabling renewable energy generated from solar and wind sources to be stored and supplied when required. This will improve grid stability, enhance energy reliability, and facilitate the integration of larger volumes of renewable power into the national electricity network.

The minister also reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity as part of its broader strategy to achieve energy security, lower carbon emissions, and support sustainable economic growth. Continued investments in clean energy infrastructure and storage technologies are expected to strengthen the country's transition towards a low-carbon energy system while creating opportunities for innovation and long-term development.

The government's focus on combining renewable energy deployment with advanced storage solutions reflects its efforts to build a resilient and future-ready power sector. As India continues to scale up clean energy capacity, battery storage is expected to play an increasingly important role in ensuring a reliable, flexible, and sustainable electricity supply across the country.
