Germany Raises Concerns Over EU Methane Rules and Fuel Imports

Germany has called on the European Commission to provide greater clarity on the implementation of the European Union's methane emissions regulation, warning that the rules could disrupt imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and jet fuel into the bloc. The concerns were raised during discussions among EU member states on the regulation's practical application and its potential impact on energy security.

The EU Methane Regulation aims to reduce methane emissions across the energy sector by introducing stricter monitoring, reporting and verification requirements for fossil fuel imports. Germany cautioned that uncertainties surrounding compliance requirements for imported fuels could create supply chain challenges and affect the availability of key energy products.
