Expo City Dubai has achieved Platinum pre-certification under the LEED Cities and Communities standard and pre-certification under the WELL Community standard, marking a major recognition of its commitment to sustainable urban development. The LEED standard emphasises inclusivity, environmental conservation and economic growth, while WELL Community focuses on health and well-being in the built environment. The development’s sustainability roadmap outlines ambitious targets: a reduction in embodied carbon of 40 % by 2030 and net-zero by 2050, aligning with global frameworks such as the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) and the World Resources Institute (WRI) protocols. Key strategies include prioritising renewable energy, lowering water consumption, promoting micro-mobility, reducing vehicle traffic, and incorporating circular-economy principles across planning and construction. This signals a broader shift in the region’s approach to urban planning, with Expo City Dubai positioned as a blueprint for futuristic sustainable cities. By embedding sustainability at its core, the development supports social, economic and environmental goals while establishing benchmarks for other large-scale urban projects.
