A high-level European Union delegation is visiting Assam on June 8–9 to strengthen collaboration between Europe and India’s northeastern states, with a focus on sustainable development, innovation and economic cooperation. The visit is aligned with the India–EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda agreed earlier this year. A key highlight of the visit is the launch of India’s first Blue Valley cluster, an initiative designed to promote sustainable and innovation-driven regional development. The programme is expected to support collaboration between stakeholders in India and Europe while encouraging new opportunities for investment and knowledge exchange. Discussions during the visit are expected to focus on sectors including renewable energy, healthcare, research, innovation and agri-food processing. Officials have said the engagement aims to identify areas where cooperation can support sustainable livelihoods and economic opportunities across the region. The delegation will also engage with representatives from government, academia, industry and research institutions to explore partnerships that can strengthen connectivity between Northeast India and Europe. The initiative reflects growing cooperation between the two sides on sustainability, innovation and regional development priorities.
