The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has begun receiving corporate sustainability information for the European Union's European Single Access Point (ESAP), marking an important step towards centralising access to corporate sustainability disclosures. The platform is designed to provide investors, researchers and other stakeholders with free and centralised access to information published by companies across the EU.
The development forms part of the EU's broader effort to make corporate information more accessible and digitally usable across European capital markets. Sustainability disclosures are being integrated into the ESAP framework alongside other corporate and financial information, allowing users to access data through a single platform rather than searching across multiple national and company-level sources.
The move is particularly relevant to the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). EU rules require companies within scope to disclose information on the sustainability-related risks and opportunities they face, as well as the impacts of their activities on people and the environment.
The ESAP rollout is being introduced in phases. Under the EU framework, sustainability information from companies listed on EU regulated markets is scheduled to become available through the platform from 10 July 2027, while sustainability information from certain non-listed companies is scheduled to follow from 10 January 2028. The current receipt of sustainability data therefore represents an early step in building the infrastructure required for this future disclosure system.
The development could improve the usability and comparability of sustainability information for investors and other stakeholders by creating a central digital access point for corporate disclosures. It also supports the EU's wider objective of making sustainability data more transparent and accessible as ESG reporting becomes increasingly integrated into financial and corporate decision-making.
A live EU sustainability-data repository makes CSRD disclosures comparable and searchable, which raises the credibility bar and reduces greenwashing surface area. Our ESG-strategy and sustainability-due-diligence teams help clients build reporting infrastructure that stands up to public-repository scrutiny.
