The Council of the European Union has adopted new conclusions reaffirming its commitment to the Global Gateway strategy, the bloc's flagship international investment initiative supporting sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, digital connectivity and economic development in partner countries. The move strengthens the EU's efforts to promote sustainable and resilient growth through international partnerships. In its conclusions, the Council called for stronger coordination between EU institutions, member states and financial partners to improve the delivery of Global Gateway projects. The strategy aims to mobilise public and private investment to address infrastructure gaps while advancing environmental and social sustainability objectives. The Council also reiterated that projects financed under the initiative should adhere to high standards of transparency, governance and sustainability. It reaffirmed the strategy's alignment with the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the EU's focus on climate-friendly and inclusive development. Global Gateway investments span sectors including renewable energy, sustainable transport, digital infrastructure, healthcare and education. EU officials said the strategy will remain a key tool for strengthening global partnerships while supporting sustainable development and economic resilience in partner countries.
