EIB Commits €260 Million to Poland’s 190MW Wind Farm Push

EIB Commits €260 Million to Poland’s 190MW Wind Farm Push

30 July 2026

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is backing Poland’s renewable energy transition with more than €260 million (US$300 million) in financing for TAURON’s 190MW Miejska Górka onshore wind farm in western Poland. The project is expected to become the country’s second-largest onshore wind farm and enter operation in 2027.

The EIB financing, equivalent to PLN 1.12 billion, will cover more than half of the project’s total cost and provide TAURON with long-term capital at favourable rates. The 18-year financing arrangement is intended to support the utility’s broader investment programme while easing capital costs during its energy transition.

Construction is already well advanced, with the project set to feature more than 50 turbines, each exceeding 130 metres in height and capable of generating 3.6MW. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to produce enough renewable electricity to supply nearly 200,000 households.

For TAURON, the project represents its largest onshore wind development to date and supports the company’s ambition to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. The development is also expected to support regional employment, with much of the construction involving European subcontractors.

The investment reflects Poland’s wider effort to diversify its power mix, strengthen domestic energy security, and reduce its historic dependence on coal. For investors, the country’s transition is creating significant opportunities across renewable generation, grids, storage, and supporting infrastructure.

The project also aligns with the EIB’s broader European climate financing strategy. The bank directed nearly two-thirds of its new financing toward green projects in 2025, reinforcing the growing role of long-term institutional capital in Europe’s shift toward cleaner and more secure energy systems.

EIB commitments at this scale for Polish wind reshape Central-European renewable pipeline availability, and they signal how MDB financing is enabling accelerated deployment in transition-lagging jurisdictions. Our responsible-investment and energy-transition teams help clients evaluate what MDB co-financing means for cross-border pipeline opportunities.
