Dubai is strengthening its position as a sustainable tourism destination, with 237 hotels receiving the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) Stamp in the latest recognition cycle. The number marks a 55% increase from the previous cycle, when 153 hotels were recognised, and more than triples the 70 hotels recognised when the programme began in 2023.

The latest awards include 22 Gold, 92 Silver, and 123 Bronze distinctions, based on sustainability criteria covering key environmental, social, and governance areas. These include energy and water efficiency, waste management, responsible sourcing, and community engagement, signalling a broader shift toward embedding sustainability into hotel operations.

The growth of the programme comes as Dubai continues to align its tourism sector with wider UAE sustainability ambitions, including the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy. For the hospitality industry, this places greater emphasis on operational efficiency, resource management, responsible procurement, and measurable sustainability performance.

The DST Stamp also creates a stronger benchmark for hotels seeking to respond to growing demand for more responsible tourism. Independent third-party assessments and senior jury oversight are intended to strengthen the credibility of the recognition, while hotels that do not qualify are encouraged to improve their practices and participate in future cycles.

DET is also supporting the sector through tools and training, including a Carbon Calculator and the Dubai Sustainable Tourism course. These initiatives can help hotels build internal sustainability capabilities, understand their environmental footprint, and identify practical opportunities to reduce resource consumption and emissions.
