Dubai Launches Five-Year Plan to Strengthen Public Transport Connectivity

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has approved a five-year plan to strengthen first- and last-mile connectivity by linking 25 residential neighbourhoods with 63 public transport stations by 2030. The initiative aims to make public transport more accessible through expanded walking, cycling and shared mobility infrastructure, encouraging residents to shift from private vehicles to more sustainable modes of transport.

Under the plan, the RTA will develop pedestrian walkways, cycling tracks, shaded pathways, safe crossings and infrastructure for shared mobility services such as bicycles and e-scooters.

The upgrades will be implemented across priority residential communities based on factors including population density, existing public transport usage, land use and current pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. The initiative also includes improvements around metro and bus stations to create a more integrated urban mobility network.

The programme forms part of Dubai's broader sustainable mobility strategy and supports the emirate's long-term vision of reducing road congestion, improving air quality and increasing the use of public transport.
