Dubai has unveiled District IO, an ambitious new development within Dubai Silicon Oasis designed to serve as a global hub for future technology sectors and sustainable economic growth. Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the project is expected to contribute up to AED103 billion to the UAE’s GDP by 2036, creating more than 70,000 direct and indirect jobs over the next decade. The initiative sits within a broader strategic framework that prioritises innovation, knowledge-based industries, and cutting-edge technologies. District IO, backed by an AED11 billion investment, is structured to attract more than 6,500 businesses — from startups to global firms — specialising in sectors such as artificial intelligence, smart mobility, quantum computing, robotics and Web3 technologies. These sectors are seen as key drivers of the UAE’s transition toward a diversified and sustainable economy. Designed to support research, development and innovation, District IO will feature 25 LEED-certified buildings, inclusive of commercial, residential and hospitality facilities. This environmentally conscious design reflects Dubai’s approach to integrating sustainability principles into major economic infrastructure, ensuring that development supports both growth and quality of life. The project also aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the broader Dubai Economic Agenda D33, reinforcing sustainability and human-centric urbanism as core priorities. The phased development will begin with foundational R&D laboratories, office spaces and dedicated services in 2026, followed by expanded hospitality and experiential facilities in 2027. Leaders have emphasised that District IO’s integrated ecosystem will provide a dynamic environment for innovators, investors and professionals, helping to position Dubai as a future-ready city that balances economic advancement with sustainable and inclusive community development.
