SDG 3 issues remain significant. The goal faces challenges in implementation, particularly across low- and middle-income countries. One of the primary barriers is the inequitable access to quality healthcare services, especially in rural and marginalized communities.
Health systems in many countries remain underfunded, with shortages of trained medical personnel, essential medicines, and infrastructure.
Additionally, fragile public health systems struggle to respond to emerging diseases and pandemics, as seen with COVID-19, which disrupted immunization programs, maternal care, and chronic disease treatment worldwide.
The lack of universal health coverage (UHC) remains a major hurdle, leaving millions vulnerable to financial hardship due to out-of-pocket health expenses.
Another major challenge is the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, which are now leading causes of death globally—even in countries still battling infectious diseases like malaria and tuberculosis. This dual disease burden strains healthcare systems.
Furthermore, social determinants of health—such as poor sanitation, malnutrition, lack of education, and environmental pollution—continue to affect health outcomes, especially among women and children.
Conflict, climate change, and forced displacement also create additional barriers to healthcare access and continuity. To achieve SDG 3 by 2030, countries must overcome these systemic gaps through inclusive policies, stronger health financing, and multi-sectoral collaboration.

Ensuring good health and well-being for all is not the sole responsibility of governments; it requires collective action from multiple stakeholders. Governments must lead with strong policies and investments in health systems, but the private sector also plays a key role through innovation, affordable healthcare solutions, and workplace wellness.
International organizations such as the WHO and UN agencies provide critical technical support, financing, and coordination. Civil society and NGOs help bridge service gaps and advocate for health equity, while academia contributes research and data to guide effective interventions.
Most importantly, individuals also play a role: practicing healthy habits, following tips for good health and well-being, and advocating for accountability. Together, these collective efforts move the world closer to achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.

SDG 3 is important because good health and well-being are the foundation for people to live, learn, work, and thrive.
We can achieve SDG 3 by strengthening healthcare systems, ensuring universal health coverage, investing in disease prevention, improving mental health services, and addressing environmental health risks like pollution and unsafe water. Collaboration between governments, private sector, NGOs, and individuals is key to making healthcare accessible, affordable, and inclusive.
SDG 3 has 13 targets and 28 indicators. These cover reducing maternal and child mortality, ending epidemics, combating non-communicable diseases, ensuring access to medicines and vaccines, improving mental health, and strengthening healthcare workforce and systems.
The goal of SDG 3 is to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages.” It focuses on reducing preventable deaths, improving healthcare access, and promoting overall physical and mental well-being.
AI can transform healthcare by: • Predicting disease outbreaks through data analysis • Assisting doctors in faster, more accurate diagnoses • Personalizing treatment plans • Supporting telemedicine for remote communities • Optimizing hospital operations and resource management This helps make healthcare more efficient, affordable, and accessible worldwide.
