Where reduction commitments are required, they are linked to the funded abatement plan developed under Area 02 rather than stated independently.

Scope 1 and 2 emissions at pharmaceutical sites derive mainly from purchased electricity, steam and HVAC loads (cleanroom air-change requirements are a significant driver), solvent use, and thermal processes. A substantial share of abatement potential sits in levers with no registration impact: renewable power procurement, HVAC optimization within qualified parameters, heat recovery, and utilities efficiency.

Cognitud develops site GHG inventories per GHG Protocol standards and classifies each abatement lever by regulatory impact: no impact, site-level change control only, or registration-relevant. Non-impacting levers are sequenced on commercial criteria; registration-relevant levers (solvent recovery and substitution, process changes, site transfers) are scoped with quality and regulatory functions from the outset and planned on validation timelines. The classification step is performed with the client's QA function and documented, so the abatement plan carries quality sign-off from the start.

API, KSM, and excipient supply is geographically concentrated for many molecules, creating simultaneous exposure to supply disruption, price volatility, and ESG risk in the same supplier set. Diversification decisions carry qualification costs and timelines that differ materially by product and market, and assessments made on one risk dimension alone can degrade another.

Cognitud performs sourcing-footprint analysis across the three dimensions in one model: supply-continuity risk (supplier concentration, geographic concentration, single-source registrations), cost (current pricing, alternative-supplier economics, qualification cost and duration), and ESG exposure (screening by supplier and geography, due-diligence status by tier). Dual-sourcing and diversification options are evaluated with qualification timelines stated explicitly, and due-diligence evidence is maintained at the tier depth requested by regulators and payers in the client's markets.

Distribution emissions derive from refrigerant selection and leakage in cold-chain assets, transport-mode mix (air-freight dependence in particular), and packaging systems. Abatement options — mode shift on stability-proven lanes, refrigerant transitions, and reusable shipper systems — are constrained by product stability data and Good Distribution Practice requirements, which define the feasible set per lane and product.

Cognitud runs cold-chain and logistics categories with cost, service reliability, and emissions intensity evaluated in a single award framework. Mode-shift analysis is limited to lanes where stability budgets permit; refrigerant and shipper-system options are assessed on lifecycle cost and emissions. Indirect and clinical-consumables categories are managed with standard sourcing methods, with single-use reduction assessed against sterility and safety requirements per item class rather than portfolio-wide.

Initial engagements typically begin with a diagnostic across three positions: the manufacturing and distribution footprint (site- and product-level inventory status), the sourcing concentration profile (Area 03 risk analysis at screening depth), and tender readiness in priority markets (Area 01 gap assessment). The diagnostic output is a sequenced programme in which non-regulated abatement levers and category actions proceed first, funding and preceding registration-relevant changes that enter change control with realistic timelines.

Data requirements at diagnostic stage are limited to existing records: utility and fuel consumption by site, spend cube by category and supplier, product and shipment data by lane, and current tender or customer data requests. Gaps identified during collection are documented and addressed within the programme.
