Cognitud advises chemical producers — commodity, specialty, and intermediate — on decarbonization, product environmental data, feedstock strategy and procurement. The sector combines energy-intensive, hard-to-abate processes with a position upstream of nearly every value chain now subject to emissions requirements, which places chemical producers inside the Scope 3 programmes of their customers in packaging, automotive, agriculture, construction and consumer goods.

The principal technical questions are structural: high-grade process heat with limited electrification options at current technology readiness; a feedstock slate in transition toward recycled, bio-based and, mass-balance routes with differing certification and availability profiles; and product carbon footprint requirements entering customer specifications and tenders.

Because the sector's largest emissions decisions — feedstock, energy, and logistics — are purchasing decisions, chemicals engagements are staffed jointly across Cognitud's sustainability and procurement practices. Services are listed below under two tracks; most engagements draw on both.

Analysis is performed at the asset and product level. While process-related work is conducted with the client's engineering function, Cognitud's scope covers economic and emissions analysis, sourcing and certification strategy, and disclosure — not process design.

Sustainability services cover site decarbonization economics, portfolio-wide product environmental data, circular-route assessment and disclosure. Methodologies follow GHG Protocol standards for corporate accounting and ISO 14040/14044 for life cycle assessment; certification schemes for recycled and bio-based content are confirmed per client and market during scoping.

PROCESS DECARBONIZATION

Site GHG inventories; marginal abatement cost curves covering efficiency, heat electrification, fuel switching, and hydrogen-readiness options; sequencing against turnaround schedules and capex plans; and technology-readiness qualification per lever.
