The Federal Decree-Law No. (11) of 2024 on the Reduction of Climate Change Effects is a broad legal framework to mitigate the impacts on climate change in the UAE. It covers the strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting climate adaptation and affirming that global goals will be met. Such provisions are creating a National Carbon Credit Registry, approving and reviewing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), promoting sustainable technologies and ensuring compliance with the law. The law also sets penalties for violations and mandates the climate reporting, reconfirming UAE’s intentions of achieving climate neutrality and supporting international environmental goals.
