Dubai Authorities Strengthen Consumer Safety Through Joint Health-Product Inspections

Dubai's Department of Planning and Development – Trakhees, part of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has conducted a joint inspection campaign with Dubai Municipality to strengthen consumer product safety and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. The campaign was carried out through Trakhees' Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Department.

The campaign covered 40 establishments selling e-cigarettes and related products at Dragon Mart, with 40 inspection visits conducted during May 2026. Authorities identified violations at 23 establishments and seized 4,872 non-compliant products across 54 brands after finding nicotine concentrations above the permitted limit of 3%.

Inspections also assessed compliance with requirements covering valid trade licences, operating conditions, product labelling, permits for tobacco-product sales and product registration with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT). Authorities additionally checked compliance with regulations governing smoking restrictions and the prohibition of sales to individuals below the age of 18.

Beyond enforcement, the campaign aimed to provide consumers with a safer purchasing environment and access to accurate information about products available in the market. It also sought to raise awareness among businesses about consumer rights, regulatory responsibilities and the importance of maintaining compliance with approved health and safety standards.

The initiative forms part of Trakhees' wider approach to consumer protection, public health and community wellbeing. The authority has emphasised proactive inspections as a means of identifying non-compliant practices, improving regulatory compliance and supporting a safe and sustainable business environment. Dubai Municipality has similarly maintained inspection programmes covering health, safety and environmental compliance across the emirate.

The campaign highlights the role of effective regulatory oversight in advancing the social dimension of sustainability.
