Canada’s advanced semiconductor packaging market is entering a period of stronger growth as demand for AI, 5G, electric vehicles, and high-performance electronics accelerates. The global market is projected to reach US$47.4 billion by 2031, growing at a 7.6% compound annual rate from 2025 to 2031, while Canada is expected to benefit from rising technology adoption and increasing research and development investment.

Advanced packaging is becoming increasingly important as manufacturers seek greater computing performance within smaller and more energy-efficient devices. Fan-out wafer-level packaging is expected to remain a leading segment, while 3D packaging and heterogeneous integration are gaining attention for their ability to combine multiple chips and functions within compact footprints.

Canada’s opportunities extend across automotive, aerospace and defence, medical devices, consumer electronics, data centres and connected technologies. Growing demand for electric vehicles and autonomous systems is creating requirements for reliable, high-density packages, while AI and data center applications are increasing the need for improved thermal management, power efficiency, and high-speed signal performance.

The market is also evolving around more efficient manufacturing. Companies are exploring lower-waste processes, environmentally responsible materials, and energy-efficient production methods alongside AI-enabled quality control, predictive maintenance, and connected manufacturing systems. At the same time, domestic investment and supplier diversification are becoming increasingly important as manufacturers seek greater control over capacity and supply-chain risks.

For businesses entering or expanding within this ecosystem, growth will depend on balancing technological innovation with operational efficiency, supply chain resilience, and environmental performance.

Cognitud can support semiconductor and electronics businesses by assessing operational and supply-chain risks, identifying resource and energy-efficiency opportunities, developing responsible sourcing strategies, and integrating sustainability considerations into manufacturing and growth plans as the sector scales.
